Set up two-factor authentication

Monitoring accounts can reveal infrastructure names, incident history, and operational patterns. Two-factor authentication adds a second proof before an account can be used.

What you need

StatusIntel uses time-based one-time passwords. You can use Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Bitwarden, Microsoft Authenticator, or any app that supports TOTP codes.

Enable 2FA

  1. Sign in to StatusIntel.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Find the Two-Factor Authentication section.
  4. Select Enable 2FA.
  5. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app.
  6. Enter the current six-digit code to confirm setup.

Confirm the account still works

After enabling 2FA, sign out and sign back in while you still have access to the authenticator app. This catches device-time problems immediately. TOTP codes depend on accurate time, so a phone with badly skewed time can generate codes that are rejected.

Operational guidance

For shared operational teams, avoid putting one person's authenticator app in the critical path for every account. Each operator should use their own account with their own 2FA. That preserves accountability and avoids an emergency where the only valid code is on a device nobody can reach.

If you lose access to your authenticator device, contact support from the account email address and be prepared to verify ownership before 2FA is reset.
